København, Danmark

Second destination of the grand tour: Copenhagen, Denmark.

Unsurprisingly foggy, Copenhagen felt very comfortable and also very familiar, almost like Cape Cod in April. That is, if Cape Cod had ornate buildings with onion domed roofs, towering spires decorated like sea monsters, and centuries old castles.

Christiania, Copenhagen’s experiment in anarchy, was particularly familiar; the resident-built structures in this neighborhood are strongly reminiscent of many of the Lower Cape’s beachhouses.

New to me was the juxtaposition of new construction and historic grandeur, which is to say, I freaked out seeing a crane parked squarely in front of huge copper-plated dome.
