Day 18: Damascus, Virginia: A fine rest day.
Damascus is nestled, as most towns in Appalachia are, in between a number of hills (or mountains, as we’d call them anywhere else).
Day 17: Virginia, or, Not So Bad!
Today’s the 17th day since I’ve left Providence, and the 14th day of riding. I passed 1,000 miles (ended up at 1,035) today and ended up in Damscus, VA.
Tromsø, Norge
With high latitudes come high expectations.
København, Danmark
Second destination of the grand tour: Copenhagen, Denmark. Unsurprisingly foggy, Copenhagen felt very comfortable and also very familiar, almost like Cape Cod in April. That is, if Cape Cod had ornate buildings with onion domed roofs, towering spires decorated like sea monsters, and centuries old castles.
Paris, France
After literally decades of putting it off, I was finally convinced to make a trip to Europe. Here’s what I saw in Paris: lots of low angle light, old buildings, and cooler, calmer colors.
Way back, to Santa Fe
Days 15 and 16: Adventure without End, Part II
After a fantastic and scenic stay with Pat in Buena Vista, I headed out with high hopes to make it to Blacksburg in spite of the cloudy outlook.
Days 14, 15, and 16: Adventure without End, Part I
Starting out from Charlottesville, I was quickly led astray (or perhaps not?) by following TransAnerica route markers…which led to some very non-bikey roads.
Day 13: Virginia
The luckiest day of the trip began gray, became drizzly, and soon resolved itself into a rainy grind towards some nebulous “next stop,” which turned out to be Charlottesville.
