Days 14, 15, and 16: Adventure without End, Part I
Starting out from Charlottesville, I was quickly led astray (or perhaps not?) by following TransAnerica route markers…which led to some very non-bikey roads.
Day 13: Virginia
The luckiest day of the trip began gray, became drizzly, and soon resolved itself into a rainy grind towards some nebulous “next stop,” which turned out to be Charlottesville.
Day 8: Maryland, Washington DC
Starting about 45 miles north of Baltimore, I followed US Route 40 west into the city.
Day 5: New Jersey, Pennsylvania
New Jersey is actually a great place. For bike riding, anyways
Day 4: New York, New Jersey
A beautifully/happily sunny morning today, and started out feeling optimistic- a few more miles in NY, then on to New Jersey and hopefully Princeton by dinner.
Day 2: Connecticut & New York
Another beautiful day, although I’ve heard threats of rain tomorrow. Took a turn away from the planned route after Windsor Locks (check out that Connecticut River, by the way- I’d row all over that) because there were too freaking many hills- not just inconvenient, but seriously slow.
Monomoy Sea Turtle Rescue Team 2016
Although the end of the season blues were running at Monomoy last Friday, it turned out that there was one more surpise in store for the team: rescuing a 500 pound leatherback sea turtle.
Last Night on Monomoy
Without warning, it’s suddenly our last night on Monomoy. Tomorrow, we break down the cook tent, pack up the guest tents, and start the move out.
Landfall
The most exciting day of the week: getting back to land and having people look at you like an alien as you leap from the boat into the shallows, covered in days of sunblock and tern poop, harsh tanlines, and carrying your life in a soaking wet pack.
